UH-Clear Lake prepares for spring commencement Accomplished graduates and proud families and friends will gather together on Saturday, May 16, 7 p.m., for the University of Houston-Clear Lake’s spring 2009 Commencement Ceremony at Reliant Arena, 8400 Kirby Drive, Houston, 77054. Preston Johnson Jr., senior vice president of human resources for McDermott International and a 2008 UH-Clear Lake Distinguished Alumnus, will present the keynote address. A 1983 graduate of the university with a Master of Business Administration, Johnson has more than 25 years of leadership experience in financial, business, employee development and human resource management. He is a member of the American Management Association, Society of Human Resource Professionals and the Houston HR Executive Roundtable. During the ceremony, approximately 910 of the 1,115 students who applied for graduation will participate. UH-Clear Lake’s graduation celebration weekend will begin on Friday, May 15, at 5:30 p.m. with Commencement Kick-Off. Sponsored by the university’s Office of Alumni and Community Relations, this program is for all graduates, their family and friends. Each graduate is provided three free tickets for this celebration and may purchase additional tickets for $2 a piece. Commencement Kick-Off takes place in the UH-Clear Lake Bayou Building’s Atrium 1, Level 1. Since it first opened its doors in 1974, UH-Clear Lake has awarded more than 49,000 degrees.
