University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Office of International Initiatives presented the Jerry Rhodeback International Education Awards to five UH-Clear Lake employees and one community member during a special International Education Week luncheon in November. UH-Clear Lake presents International Education Awards
In recognition of International Education Week in November, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Office of International Initiatives hosted several lectures, exhibits and activities. They also presented the annual Jerry Rhodeback International Education Awards during a luncheon that included numerous international leaders from UH-Clear Lake and the Houston area.
Broadcast journalist and media research consultant LanDai Nguyen Rees served as the keynote speaker at the luncheon and presented “Media: Access to Information and Empowerment of People for a Better Future.”
Several people were also recognized. Community friend Bao Ngoc Nguyen was honored for his work in founding the Vietnamese Culture & Science Association, an organization that promotes excellence in education, leadership and skills development through culture and science.
Five UH-Clear Lake faculty and staff received recognition including School of Business Academic Adviser Karen Carter for her hospitality to visiting Korean Fulbright teachers; Professor of Mathematics and Statistics Raj Chhikara for his ongoing collaborations with colleagues abroad; and School of Science and Computer Engineering Academic Adviser Barbara Coleman for her work with international students. Finally, Associate Professor of Sociology Mike McMullen and Associate Professor of Criminology Everette Penn were recognized for their work to develop and offer study abroad opportunities in Egypt.
