Art prof exhibits in concurrent shows
University of Houston-Clear Lake Professor of Fine Arts Sandria Hu has had her paintings and prints displayed in art galleries throughout the world over the past 30 years. For the first time in her extensive career, Hu is having two one-woman shows simultaneously.
Hu opened, “Smoke and Ash,” a display of 17 paintings at The Grace Museum in Abilene, Texas, in early September with the exhibition set to run through December. During October, Hu unveiled 22 of her paintings and four prints at the Millennium Gallery in Prague, Czech Republic. The show will run through Nov. 2.
In 2009, the exhibition in Prague will travel to the University of West Bohemia in Pizen, Czech Republic before becoming part of the American Women Artists Program Exhibition at the American Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia.
“This (having two shows at the same time) is a first for me and though it was even more challenging because of Hurricane Ike, it still has been very exciting,” said Hu.
A four-time Fulbright Scholar who holds a master of fine arts from Stanford University, Hu’s artwork is part of 14 permanent collections. She has been teaching art to UH-Clear Lake students since 1975.
