University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Association for Childhood Education International was winner of two branch awards and two individual member awards during the association’s national conference. The branch won the Best Children’s Event/Community Outreach for its “First Book” event, which reached 800 at-risk or special needs children. It also received the Best Global Focus Award for its participation in the Starfish Kenya Outreach Project – a project which provides support to more than 80 AIDS-orphaned children living at the House of Hope in Kenya, East Africa. UH-Clear Lake part-time faculty member Marlene Morgan received the Outstanding Member Service Award, and Jorge De La Garza was recipient of the Nancy Bartlett-Wright scholarship. Locally, the organization was named Organization of the Year by the UH-Clear Lake Student Government Association, and President, Misty Hummel, was also named Student Leader of the Year. UH-Clear Lake ACEI organization captures multiple awards
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Association for Childhood Education International won more awards than any other association branch at the annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia. UH-Clear Lake’s branch won a total of four awards: two for the local association; and two for individual members – Marlene Morgan and Jorge De La Garza.
Morgan, a part-time faculty member in UH-Clear Lake’s School of Education, received the prestigious Outstanding Member Service Award for contributions made to the betterment of children, the field of education and ACEI; student member Jorge De La Garza received the Nancy Bartlett-Wright scholarship in recognition of his contributions to the development and extension of ACEI and the advancement of children’s education.
