UH-Clear Lake prof named Fulbright Scholar

University of Houston-Clear Lake Assistant Professor of Legal Studies and Management M. Alix Valenti has been named a Fulbright Scholar. She will be lecturing at National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in fall 2008.

“My colleagues who have been Fulbright Scholars have had such positive experiences that I felt it was something I wanted to pursue,” explained Valenti. “Louis White, faculty chair of administrative sciences and professor of management, has a very strong relationship with Sun Yat-Sen University and I have had the chance to work with students from that university who have studied at UH-Clear Lake.”

Valenti will be lecturing primarily to Master of Business Administration students taking either one of two courses on organizational behavior or human resource management. This will not be her first academic sojourn to Taiwan as she was awarded a grant from Houston’s Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in 2007 that gave her the chance to lecture to students at several Taiwanese universities.

“Receiving a Fulbright Scholar Award is quite an accomplishment,” says Executive Director of International Initiatives Judith Pennywell. “The honor not only recognizes Dr. Valenti’s talent as an instructor and scholar, but also acknowledges her commitment to international education and cross-cultural exchange.”

Valenti has earned several academic degrees including a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y.; a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. John’s University School of Law in Jamaica, N.Y.; and a Master of Laws from New York University School of Law; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston; and a doctorate in International Management Studies from University of Texas at Dallas.
