Podcasting workshop for teachers held
Many teachers and professors are realizing the benefits of podcasting elements of their classes, and on Aug. 1, those interested in learning more about it can participate in the University of Houston-Clear Lake Center for Educational Programs’ “Podcasting 101: Creating Podcasts in the Classroom.” This interactive course, which runs 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., shows educators five easy steps – experience, write, record, publish and publicize – that will allow them to create a successful podcast.

Take in Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition
Art enthusiasts can experience the original artwork of several University of Houston-Clear Lake students currently on display in the University of Houston-Clear Lake Art Gallery. The Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition features projects created by students including the artwork of John Collins, Brandon Miller and Ann Albritton, the three UHCL students who placed in this exhibition’s competition.
The exhibition will be on display until Aug. 1, in the gallery located on the first floor of the Bayou Building. The gallery’s hours are Monday – Thursday, 9 am. – 6 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. – noon. For more information, call 281-283-3311.
SAT Writing prep class takes place Aug. 4-7
Summer is the perfect time to prepare for the writing section of the SAT Reasoning Test. University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Kids’ U Young Writers program has created SAT Writing Preparation to give teens an opportunity to sharpen their writing skills for this portion of the SAT.
From Aug. 4 –Aug. 7, students will have the chance to learn valuable test-taking strategies as well as receive individualized feedback to strengthen their writing abilities. The course runs from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and costs $149.

Increase understanding of business analysis
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Advanced Management Programs invites local business leaders to a two-day workshop on Aug. 21-22 that introduces participants to the business analysis function. Participants will learn more about the philosophy, methods and terminology of business analysis.

Elementary students enhance Spanish language skills
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Kids’ U invites area children to learn a second language during the Spanish language camp Aug. 4-Aug. 7. Structured for students who completed third through fifth grade in spring 2008, this four-day program focuses on learning the basics of Spanish through games, music and role-playing.

Art show focuses on faculty projects
Artwork showcasing the talents of University of Houston-Clear Lake arts faculty is on display in a special exhibit that will be open to the public through Sept. 10. Faculty in this show include Nick de Vries, professor of fine arts; Sandria Hu, associate professor of fine arts; Stuart Larson, professor of graphic design; Matthew Linton, associate professor of communication; and Jason Makepeace, visiting lecturer of art.
Hours for the exhibition are Mondays-Thursdays from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. The exhibit is in the UHCL Bayou Building, Atrium I, Level 2. Admission is free. For more information, call 281-283-3446.

UH-Clear Lake Neumann Library offers exhibit
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Neumann Library invites all to visit an exhibit focusing on human creativity and intellect. “Cultural Literacy is the Foundation of Education” includes posters, books and videos that are sure to stir some thought.
This collection will be on display through the summer Mondays-Thursdays, 8 a.m. – Midnight; Fridays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Sundays, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. There is no charge to visit this exhibit.
