1970s Emory J. King, ’77 BS, received the 2007 Alvin Community College Outstanding Alumni Award at the college’s annual alumni association reception in February. Carolyn Reding, ’79 MA, was elected co-chair of Austin Poets International. James Houston Turner, ’76 MA, garnered a film option on his espionage novel, “The Second Thirteen.” His next novel, “The Identity Factor,” a geopolitical thriller, will be released in early 2008. 1980s Anna Bates, ’83 MA, ’81 BA, joined the faculty of Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. John Q. Belt, ’80 MS, is president of QuinLab Consulting LLC in Dallas. He and his wife, Charlotte, live in Garland. Charles Eastburn, ’83 MBA, ’80 BBA, has established a consulting business, Saturday Solutions LLC. Mary Geehan, ’84 BBA, is the owner of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Kansas City, Mo. Sarah Harrison, ’86 MBA, executive healthcare consultant for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals L.P., was honored by Girls Inc. as a leader and role model for young women. Daniel Holt, ’82 MS, ’77 BA, was named vice president of business services for Blinn College in Brenham. Patti Gayle Insani, ’86 BS, is assistant administrator for the City of Houston Housing Authority. Patricia Jones, ’81 MBA, is head of the English Department at Clear Brook High School, Clear Creek ISD. Linda Llorente, ’85 MS, ’85 Secondary Teaching Certificate, ’88 Elementary Teaching Certificate, ’89 Professional Teaching Certificate, is principal at Austin High School, Houston ISD. Mark Louis, ’86 MA, is a project manager at Intel in Austin. Michael McEachern, ’86 MS, is president and CEO of St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. Sandra Mossman, ’87 Professional Teaching Certificate, has been named 2007 Superintendent of the Year by Texas Computer Education Association. Mossman is superintendent of Clear Creek ISD. Al Nodarse, ’87 BBA, has been named vice president of sales for Massini Group, Hillsboro, Ore. Chere Pinkston, ’84 MS, was tapped to serve as the spiritual leader of Unity Church of Christianity in Nacogdoches. Thomas Reyes, ’02 MS, has a baby girl, Victoria Reyes, born June 6, 2006. 1990s Julie Hanks Atchison, ’91 BBA, completed Leadership Texas, a year-long, statewide learning and networking program by the Foundation for Women’s Resources. James Walter Bevers, ’97 MS, ’91 Secondary Teaching Certificate, is principal at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas. Erin Bishop Brown, ’93 BA, earned an M.Ed. from Houston Baptist University in November 2005 and is the instructional designer in the Academic Technology Division at Blinn College in Bryan. Byron Buchanan, ’92 BBA, accepted a position with Brent Coon & Associates Law Firm P.C. in Houston. Theresa Buck, ’97 BS, is director of medical staff administration at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston. Susan Blain Callaway, ’91 BBA, is comptroller at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster. Stephanie Carter, ’98 MS, was named industry manager for the North American infrastructure market within Ashland Composite Polymers, Dublin, Ohio. Ellie Castillo, ’91 BA, has been certified as a registered environmental manager. Dwyane Colvin, ’92 BA, a practicing attorney, has returned to UHCL to teach students in the legal studies program. Valschkia Dabney-Smith, ’99 BA, earned an MBA from University of Phoenix- Timothy Eiler, ’95 MBA, has started his own business, Bizneer. Teresa Erhman, ’92 BA, joined Griffin Integrated Marketing as an account director. Chris Fally, ’94 MA, is clinic director of the counseling center at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Ind. Charles Ferrell Hall Jr., ’97 MBA, has started his own business, Matterhorn Capital Management, in San Antonio. Richard Gay, ’97 MBA, was awarded the a Legion of Merit upon his recent retirement from 28 years of service in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. In July 2006, he was elected to a one-year term as president of the Association of School Business Officials for Maryland and the District of Columbia. Pamela Helm, ’96 MS, was named the executive director for Devereux Texas Treatment Network’s League City and Victoria locations. Doug Hiser, ’96 BA, published “The Honey Bee Girl” in March 2006, a coming-of-age story set in a small Texas town. Angela Jones, ’91 BA, lives in Venice, Italy, and travels extensively in Europe. Laura Sanger Kelly, ’95 MS, ’93 Endorsement Certificate, had three short fiction stories published. Yang Li, ’92 MS, works for The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Bone Marrow Transplantation. Todd Lorenz, ’96 MHA/MBA, was named chief executive officer of Medical Park Hospital, Hope, Ark. Jon Edwin Loring Jr., ’97 BS, and Samantha Suzanne Lawrence, ’01 BBA, were married in March. They currently live in San Leon, Texas. Nelda Neal Marion, ’93 MA, ’88 BA, celebrated her golden wedding anniversary. Scott Marler, ’96 BA, defended his Ph.D. dissertation successfully in Southern U.S. History at Rice University. Cathy Susan McCormack, ’01 BA, completed her doctorate in education at UH and has joined UHCL’s School of Education as an assistant professor. Linda Miner, ’96 BS, is teaching fourth grade at Bauerschlag Elementary in Clear Creek ISD. Jason Nelson, ’93 BS, is an associate attorney with Hogan & Hartson, LLP, Denver, Colorado. He also wrote the lead article for the fall 2006 Duke Journal of Comparative and International Law titled “The Application of the International Law of State Succession to the United States: A Reassessment of the Treaty between the Republic of Texas and the Cherokee Indians.” Laura Duesterberg Santos, ’95 BA, published “Let Me In – Recovery from Autism IS Possible.” As an independent sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics, she has earned her first pink Cadillac. David Schurr, ’96 MBA, ’87 MS, has been named comptroller for NASA. Aubrey Silvertooth, ’96 MA, ’94 BA, teaches social studies at Texas City High School. Sasha Tarrant, ’96 MA, ’94 BA, was named the Piper nominee by Brazosport College for the second time and was honored by the Sons of the American Revolution with a Teacher of Excellence Award and a Martha Washington Award. Chris Tidwell, ’97 MS, ’94 BA, was named associate medical director for the Department of Emergency Medicine, Grandview Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio.
2000s Blake Adam Bouillion, ’06 BS, married Allison Siverly in February. He is an application specialist with CheckFree Corp. Harris Brooks, ’00 MHA/MBA, was named CEO of Palo Pinto General Hospital, Mineral Wells, Texas. Lennel Collard, ’05 BA, teaches social studies at Dickinson High School. Amy Constantine, ’05 BS, married Kevin Burkett on July 8, 2006. Valdria Dailey, ’02 BA, teaches sixth-grade math at Jackson Intermediate in Pasadena. Andrew DeLeon, ’05 BA, teaches in the gifted and talented program for Alvin ISD. Dan Garcia, ’00 MA, is assistant vice president and dean of enrollment management at West Texas A&M University, Canyon, Texas. Elizabeth Hammett, ’03 MA, attended the National Association for Developmental Associates at the Kellogg Institute. She has also written “Developmental Writing Workshop,” published earlier this year. Kenya Jacobs, ’03 MS, was promoted to training manager for United States Partner Development, supporting retail training programs for its company-owned Starbucks Coffee Co. stores. Shibli Khan, ’05 MA, ’98 MA, was named head of the English department for Presidency University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Linda Lapointe, ’02 BA, published “Beautiful Women – Like You and Me.” Ronald Linder, ’00 MA, is a fine arts teacher at Whitney High School in Whitney. Robert Marlin, ’03 MA, served on a panel discussion, “History Graduate School,” sponsored by UHCL History Club. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at UH. Sean McCutchen, ’03 BS, is director of Tideway, a long-term brain injury and supported living program of the Transitional Learning Center in Galveston. Julia Mergele, ’05 BA, is enrolled in the library science graduate program at North Texas State University and is serving an internship at the George Memorial Library in Fort Bend. Raed Naser, ’01 BS, has a baby boy, Jude. Lana Pigao, ’04 MA, is director of marketing and publications at College of the Mainland in Texas City. Darren Rich, ’06 MA, attends law school at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. Anthony Salvato, ’05 MA, teaches history at Lamar University in Beaumont. Rajesh Shethia, ’01 MS, is a senior systems analyst with Lovelace Health Plan. In March, he and his wife welcomed daughter Vrushti to their home in Rio Rancho, N.M. Tomas Sierra, ’02 BS, is North American automation operations manager for the company National Oilwell Varco. Cameron Slocum, ’03 MBA, was promoted to chief financial officer for the School of Medicine at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Since joining UTMB in 1998, he has served as director of treasury, director of property, plant and equipment, director of budget and as finance legislative liaison in the Office of Finance. Bernadina Streeter, ’02 MS, has joined UHCL as a program assistant in Intercultural and International Student Services. Josephine Tittsworth, ’06 BSW, has been accepted to the Graduate School of Social Work Ph.D. program at University of Houston and will begin in fall 2007. J. Kimberly Wheeler, ’06 MS, ’97 BS, joined UHCL’s University Computing and Telecommunications team as an instructional designer. Debra Yocum, ’06 MS, ’01 BS, is a librarian for Pasadena ISD. In Memory Sharon Wilson Harrell, ’98 BS, passed away in October 2006. Robert Hutson, ’77 MA, who painted the portrait of UHCL Chancellor Alfred R. Neumann hanging in UHCL’s Neumann Library, passed away in February 2007.
