Computer Science Program

Laboratories

Computer Science - Laboratories

The Computer Science (CS) program hosts several dedicated laboratories which support its research, courses, and curriculum. Students administer these laboratories under the supervision of Krishani Abeysekera, our lecturer and systems administrator.

The Windows laboratory (Delta 119) is open 24 hours a day. It contains 30 PCs which run Windows XP. The lab supports a large collection of software, including Visual Studio .NET, Rational's Enterprise Suite, and Macromedia Studio.

The Unix/Solaris Lab (Delta 158) contains 30 Sun workstations running Solaris. It supports the Unix development environment for several programming languages used in CSCI courses, including Java, Perl, C/C++, Lisp, Tcl/Tk, Bison, and Ruby.

The Systems Administration Lab (also in Delta 158) contains 20 Linux workstations for SA assignments. It accepts removable hard drives for easy experimentation.

Dr. Andrew Yang established the computer security laboratory (also in Delta 158) through a National Science Foundation grant. It houses 30 workstations and notebook computers to support several computing security courses.

With the exception of the computer security laboratory, students requesting support should contact Krishani Abeysekera. Direct technical questions to Krishani or to her research and administration assistant. Direct questions for the computer security laboratory to Dr. Andrew Yang.

UHCL also maintains open-university laboratories through our University Computing and Telecommunications (UCT) division. The PC Laboratories in the second floor of the Delta Building are especially convenient for CS students. Direct technical questions concerning university labs and specific requests to the UCT Academic Laboratory Support Center.
