Timeline
The lead time to develop and defend their proposal before registering for the class: |
A student should prepare the proposal in the semester before she/he plans to enroll in thesis. For example, a student wanting to enroll in the Spring for thesis should begin in the summer looking for a topic and then use the fall semester to write the proposal and get all approvals. All approvals need to be finished by November in order for registration into the thesis to be possible in December so that the thesis can be taken in the Spring. The search for the topic and the thesis proposal must be done under the guidance of the proposed thesis chair. Thus the student must contact the faculty and discuss the topics possible and the proposal process with the prospective thesis chair before any official forms or approvals are begun. |
After the proposal is submitted and approved and the student is enrolled in thesis it normally takes one or two semesters of work to complete the thesis. If the proposal itself is quite intensive it is possible only one semester of thesis enrollment would be needed. However, in 99% of the cases this is usually not the case and the student may needs two full semesters (or more) to do the thesis. |
From the beginning of thesis ( it begins with the search for a topic), until the end, the student must work closely with the thesis chair. |
