Preparation

The following courses or their equivalents are required as the foundation preparations for the Chemistry Program's undergraduate students. When there exists an UHCL course for the requirement, its course number and title are also listed.

Students are expected to complete most of these required foundation courses before entering the chemistry program. However, it is possible to be enrolled in the B.S. program and taking a few of the foundation courses at local community colleges at the same time.
UHCL has general lower level course requirements. A list of all required lower level courses is described in the 2+2 plan for the chemistry program.

Basic Requirements for BS Degree

Students seeking the BS degree in Chemistry must meet the following requirements before being admitted

General (Freshman) Chemistry I and II with lab	8 hours
Calculus I and II	8 hours
*Calculus-based Physics with lab	8 hours
Introduction to Computer Programming (e.g., BASIC, FORTRAN, C or PASCAL)	3 hours
*Course available at UHCL

In addition, the following courses are required foundation courses for Chemical and Biological Technology specialization

BIO1406	General Biology I	3 hours
BIO1407	General Biology II	3 hours

In all cases above, evidence of completion of the course with a grade of "C-" or better is required.
