Overview of Chemistry’s Undergraduate Program

Undergraduate Students
Academic advising is a key to successfully complete your study in the Chemistry Program. UHCL advisors including both academic and faculty advisors help students create sound and effective study plans, i.e., the Candidate Plan of Studies (CPS), and continually advise and guide the students throughout their scholastic careers. By doing that, students should work with their advisors to create their own CPS in the first semester at UHCL.

Students Seeking a Degree in Bachelor of Arts
The interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts program prepares its students for careers in medicine, secondary school teaching, patent law, or environmental science. Students seeking a career teaching in secondary school must also file a certification plan with the School of Education.

The UHCL Bachelor of Arts program meets the needs of students planning careers as professional chemists. It serves as preparation for graduate training or for a career in the chemical industry.

Students Seeking a Degree in Bachelor of Science
The Bachelor of Science plan meets the needs of students pursuing careers as professional chemists. The course of study lays the groundwork for graduate training or for a career in the chemical industry.

As an upper-level institution, many of our Bachelor’s students complete their preliminary study in nearby community colleges. Other students transfer to our program from universities throughout the United States and overseas.
