Career Fair
The IEEE UHCL Student Branch organized two prestigious events on the morning of February 3rd, 2012, which took a lot of collaboration and effort over 4 months to achieve.
The Career Fair was held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Forest Room of the Bayou Building. The purpose of the Career Fair was to provide UHCL students in the School of Computer Science and Engineering with an opportunity to meet with representatives from local companies and have their resumes critiqued by Career Service staff members.
The following companies where in attendance at the Career Fair: FLOW-CAL, Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, GeoControl Systems, and MTS.
The IEEE UHCL Branch Executive Committee along with student volunteers arrived at 7:00 AM to set up breakfast and get the tables ready for the employers. The volunteers were assigned to manage the food, registration, and aid the executive committee. The executive committee ensured that all flyers, sign-up sheets, setup sheets, and required printed materials were set up in the Forest Room, and attended to all the guests and participants of the event.
In addition to the local companies, President Staples of UHCL and the School of Science and Computer Engineering Dean Dr. Czajkiewcz were invited show their support and appreciation to the students and company representatives in attendance. |

Student Professional Awareness Conference
The Student Professional Awareness Conference was held from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Atrium I of the Bayou Building.
The purpose of the Student Professional Awareness Conference is to fill the gaps of experience left by classroom studies alone. It allows students to begin thinking beyond their academic goals and begin building the necessary skills for a successful career. It is also an opportunity to meet real corporate representatives and industry leaders.
Every student that showed up to the S-PAC received a ticket for a chance to win one of several raffle prizes. We provided lunch from the Colosseum (a local Italian restaurant) to the students, faculty, and speakers. |

The event included the speaker presentations “The Keys to Successful Leadership” by Joyce Delores, “Understanding Emotional Intelligence” by Jignasa Ray, and “Do You Want to be a Manager or Leader?” by Dr. Zafar Taqvi. |

| Systems Engineering Students Testimonials |
 |
“The Systems Engineering Master’s Degree program at UHCL was an excellent complement to my work experience at NASA. It provided detailed understanding of the systems engineering principles behind my day-to-day tasks which aided my career. Further, when I decided to change careers, this understanding helped tremendously with job interviews and assisted me in obtaining an excellent new job offer in the oil and gas industry.”
----- Nick Meyer |

" I started my graduate program in Systems Engineering at UHCL in Spring of 2010. Throughout my program, I have been challenged by the level of class projects and research papers that I have been required to complete. I was able to leverage the concepts from these classes to real life applications.
When I had an opportunity to interview for a Process Automation Engineer position at The Dow Chemical Company, the class projects I did in graduate school were evidence of my strengths that I displayed to the interviewers. Today, I have the privilege to be part of a great team of engineers and scientists working on various automation projects for America's largest chemical company."
