ScholarFind Physics/Astronomy Graduate School/Internship Application Serivce

The National Society of Black Physicists (NSBP) and the IT company ScholarFind have developed web services whereby students as well as graduate and internship programs can extend their options for admissions and recruiting.

These services are available to all physics and astronomy students

Using these services students can upload to a database all the essential elements of a graduate school or internship application including academic history, transcripts (as PDF copies), GRE scores, work/internship history and a personal statement (as a PDF). Blind letters of recommendation can also be uploaded by the writers themselves. Ggraduate and REU programs can subscribe to these respective databases.

These services lower one of the barriers to applying to graduate school and internship programs by providing an opportunity for students to put their credentials in front of multiple programs at multiple institutions with a single "application". For more information visit the graduate school service website at http://www.gradapps.nsbp.org where there is an FAQ page.  For the internship site visit http://www.reuapps.nsbp.org.   You can also contact NSBP Headquarters at career.services@nsbp.org or ScholarFind customer service at customer.service@scholarfind.org.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years as a soldier and statesman, including 30 years of service in the U.S. Senate.

The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.

NASA Accepting Applications For Aeronautics Scholarships
WASHINGTON -- NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate is accepting scholarship applications for the 2011 academic year. The application deadline is Jan. 17, 2011.

"We want more students to pursue careers in aeronautics," said Jaiwon Shin, associate administrator for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "By offering these scholarships, we are extending to students not just an opportunity to become familiar with NASA's research, but also an extra dose of inspiration. Scholarships are an excellent way for us to attract talented young innovators to our work force."

NASA expects to award 20 undergraduate and five graduate scholarships to students in aeronautics or related fields. Undergraduate students entering their second year of study will receive up to $15,000 per year for two years and the opportunity to receive a $10,000 stipend by interning at a NASA research center during the summer.

Graduate students will receive up to $35,000 per year for up to three years, with an opportunity to receive a $10,000 stipend interning at a NASA research center for up to two consecutive summers.

Students who have not committed to a specific academic institution or program still may apply. However, if accepted, they must be admitted by fall 2011 into a suitable aeronautical engineering program or related field of study at an accredited U.S. university. All applicants must be U.S. citizens. Scholarship money may be used for tuition and other school-related expenses.

NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate conducts cutting-edge, fundamental and integrated systems research in traditional and emerging disciplines. The intent is to help transform the nation's air transportation system and to support development of future air and space vehicles. Goals include improving airspace capacity and flexibility; aviation safety and aircraft performance; reducing overall noise, engine emissions and fuel usage.

Future Teacher Scholarships

The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program funds institutions of higher education to provide scholarships, stipends, and programmatic support to recruit and prepare science and math majors and professionals to become K-12 teachers. The next solicitation will be released soon, and proposals will be due in March 2011.

AAPT's Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Teachers provides stipends of up to $2,000 per year. Applications are typically due around the beginning of December.

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) offers an annual Future Teacher Scholarship of $2,000 to future teachers who are SPS members.
