David Malin is Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience. A charter faculty member of UHCL, Dr. Malin has received the UHCL President's Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Research Awards. His recent research primarily concerns laboratory study of nicotine dependence and age-related memory impairment. He leads a large student research group, known as the UHCL Rat Pack.

Magdy Akladios, Ph.D.

Magdy Akladios is an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (2005-present), before which he was an Associate Professor at West Virginia University (1996-2005). Dr. Akladios' education includes a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, a Master's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, an MBA, and a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, he is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Professional Engineer (PE), a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), a Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM), and a Certified Member of the Egyptian Syndicate for Mechanical Engineers. He is also a member in the Industrial Engineers' Honorary Society (Alpha-Pi-Mu).

Dr. Akladios' areas of expertise includes Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Human Factors, and Engineering Economy.
Kathleen Garland, Ph.D.

Kathleen Garland is currently a full-time lecturer in the Environmental Management Program in the School of Business, where she has taught for the past six years. She holds a PhD in Structural Geology from Penn State, and BA and BS degrees in General Arts and Sciences and Earth Sciences, also from Penn State. Before joining the UHCL faculty as an adjunct in 2005, Kathleen held positions with Chevron as a Development Geologist, and with the State of New Mexico as an environmental project manager, manager of the state's UST reimbursement program, and Director of the state's Mining and Minerals Division. She also worked as a senior environmental scientist in private consulting, and started her own consulting practice specializing in management strategies for companies and agencies concerned with compliance issues. Kathleen has acted as co-PI or senior research analyst on three research grants at UHCL, and currently sits on two Masters thesis committees. Her research areas focus on effectively communicating environmental and regulatory issues to the public, and on building community resilience on the Upper Texas Gulf Coast through ecosystem restoration, disaster preparedness, public policy, and community planning.

Kathleen has represented the School of Business for the Student Conference since 2009-2010. She is a strong advocate for student research at UHCL at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and has sponsored a number of student papers and posters for the conference.

Donna Kirkwood is an Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education. She received her BA in Sociology from UT-Dallas and MS and Ph.D. in Child Development from Texas Woman's University.

Samina Masood is the Program Chair of Physical Sciences and an Assistant Professor of Physics at UHCL
Dr. Masood earned a B.Sc. and M.A. at Punjab University, Lahore, and a M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. at the Quaid-i-Azim University, Islamabad.

Dr. Wetterneck earned a B.A. and B.S. at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Lee Zahn is currently a full-time undergraduate at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, majoring in Psychology where she plans on graduating in May 2012. Lee has plans on continuing her education at UHCL as she works on her Master’s degree. She holds an A.A. Degree from College of the Mainland where she graduated Phi Theta Kappa. Lee has worked for the Crisis Pregnancy Support Center in Texas City, TX and has been working on the UHCL Student Conference for Research and Creative Arts for the past three years.

Roxanne V. Fabianni

Roxanne V. Fabiani is currently a part-time undergraduate at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, majoring in Psychology. She holds an A.S. Degree in Liberal Arts from Queensborough Community College (CUNY). Her focus has been servicing Special Needs Population, Kindergarten thru Secondary schools since 1999 and currently works with the Pasadena Independent School District. An active volunteer, Roxanne also assisted the Salvation Army and National Guard during Hurricane Ike relief.

Kyle "Wolf" Wofford is pursuing a Masters in Criminology with an expected graduation in Fall 2012. In 2009, he received his B.A. in Literature from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is involved with a variety of student organizations including Innocence Project of Texas, and is an aspiring poet/writer with a profound love of music and insatiable lust for learning. His ultimate goal is to make a positive difference in the world while trying to take in all life has to offer.

Jeremy Mejia

Jeremy Mejia is currently a full-time undergraduate student striving for a double major in Anthropology and Psychology. He serves as the treasurer for UHCL’s National Society for Leadership and Success and is a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Amazon Tree, and Sustainability Club. Jeremy volunteers at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in the Emergency Room and in Human Resources. One of Jeremy's priorities is to contribute fruitfully to the UHCL campus and its surrounding diverse communities.

Elaine Barclay

Elaine Barclay holds a B.A. in Linguistics from UT Austin and an M.A. in Psychology from UHCL. Her primary research interests include the psychophysiology of addiction and the neurobiology of language. She has been a member of UHCL’s “Rat Pack” for several years, and currently works as a research assistant at Rice University’s Schnur Laboratory.
