Oral Presentation

When preparing your talk, consider how best to get your points across to the audience. Remember to consider proper sentence structure, word usage, and vocabulary. Your talk should

  1. Provide a clear introduction of your topic.
  2. Clearly identify and fully support your main points.
  3. Reinforce your central idea in your conclusion.

When presenting, use effective eye contact, body movements, gestures, and vocal quality to give both a personal and professional quality to your talk

Presentation Duration

Presentations are limited to 15 minutes including question and answer period.

Practice your talk ahead of time. You want to make sure you can effectively present your topic in 10-12 minutes and leave 3-5 minutes for questions. Most oral presentations have a moderator who indicates when you have five minutes left and one minute left.

Required Arrival

You must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the oral session
For example: If you are the third presenter in a session that starts at 11:00 am, you must arrive no later than 10:45.

When you arrive:

  1. Bring your PowerPoint file(s) on a USB drive, as you cannot log onto your university account to retrieve any files.
  2. Register at the registration desk.
  3. Go to the designated room and setup your presentation.
