The 24th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 12 noon to 4pm in at the SSCB North Lawn. The Cook-Off is a family-friendly event where students, faculty, staff, and the community can come to campus and enjoy chili, games, and FUN. There will be a DJ on site to keep the beat alive and will offer karaoke for those who wish to sing like a rock star! Kid friendly amusements will be available as well as various food and drinks. And let's not forgot about the enormous amount of chili available for tasting!
Chili Cook-Off is an outdoor event and will not be held if there is inclement weather.
Chili Cook-Off will soar to a new level this year with First Flight. First Flight is the culmination of UHCL's two-year, five-phase mascot search process that included input from students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community that resulted in the selection of the hawk as the new UHCL mascot. In fall 2012 the UHCL community had its first glance at the new Hawk mascot when the university presented the mascot artwork. With its piercing beak and talons, the UHCL Hawk mascot artwork illustrates the tenacity and swift-thinking that UHCL students are known for.
A special guest will land at the cook-off at 1:30 p.m., kicking off First Flight.

Tasting Kits
$4.00 with UHCL ID
$5.00 without a UHCL ID
There will be tasting kits on sale at the Student Life booth at the official entrance of the Cook-Off. Event patrons are encouraged to purchase a chili tasting kit. Using the kits, chili tasters will be given three cups to sample various forms of chili, and can then vote on their favorite chili. Their important vote will determine which team will awarded the 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd place for best chili! Tasters will also be given an opportunity to vote for Best Booth, Popular Vote, and the Student Government Association Award. The Spirit Awards are chosen by a panel of secret judges.
Join a Team!
All members of the UHCL community are encouraged to participate in this long-standing tradition. The teams can be a combination of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their family and friends (the majority of the team must consist of UHCL members). Applications are now available. There is an application fee of $30.00 (checks made payable to UHCL). Deadline to submit the Cook-Off application along with the application fee is set for Friday, March 1, 2013 at 12 noon.
