New Student Programs serve as a reorientation tool for all UH-Clear Lake Students throughout both fall and spring semester.
Programs change each semester to meet the needs of UHCL’s student population. Below is the current semester’s schedule of programs:
Summer 1 New Student Orientation
Date: Thu, May 31, 2012 Time: 6:00 - 8:30 pm Location: Bayou Building Description: While at New Student Orientation students will be introduced to faculty and staff, new students, current students and administrative professionals from all across campus. By attending, students will gain a broad overview of university policies, expectations and available resources.
Date: Fri, Jun 8, 2012 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm Location: SSCB Student Lounge Description: Come join the Fitness Zone for a singles ping pong competition. Bring your friends and your competitive spirit! There will also be an opportunity to sign up for the new table tennis league being held this summer.
Date: Mon, Jun 11, 2012 Location: SSCB Student Lounge Description: Join the new Fitness Zone Table Tennis League! Play on your own schedule and report the results to the Fitness Zone. A ranking will be kept of all players that will allow you to find new individuals to compete against. A champion will be named at the end of the summer semester.
Date: Fri, Jun 22, 2012 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm Location: SSCB Student Lounge Description: Join us in the SSCB Student Lounge for an afternoon of recreational games, such as Nintendo Wii, board games and card games. Escape the heat and enjoy a fun break from your studies!

Date: Fri, Aug 3, 2012 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm Location: SSCB Student Lounge Description: Join us in the SSCB Student Lounge for an afternoon of recreational games, such as Nintendo Wii, board games and card games. Escape the heat and enjoy a fun break from your studies!
Date: Fri, Aug 10, 2012 Time: 2:00 - 8:00 pm Location: Bayou Atrium I & Bayou 2512 Description: The program is designed to have you and your child working together as well as providing you with an opportunity to visit with fellow UHCL students while you watch your children playing from afar. A family friendly movie will also be included within the event schedule and a light meal will be provided. The event is free to students and their children and will include movie tickets, snacks and an activity project for children ages three and up. For new UHCL students this is a chance for your child to learn where you are while at school and what gaining an education means for our family.

Date: Tue, Aug 21, 2012 Time: 6:00 – 7:30 pm Location: Atrium II Description: Whether you are seeing your child, spouse, grandchild, or neighbor off to college this event will benefit you! Parents, partners, and family members are encouraged to stop by campus for a meet and greet with others like you, as well as UHCL staff and administration. Hors d’ oeuvres and beverages will be provided as you mix and mingle throughout the evenings event. We welcome you to stop in and get your questions answered as well as learn key UHCL policies and procedures that will not only affect your student but you.

Date: Wed, Sep 5, 2012 Time: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Location: Atrium II Description: Learn about UHCL’s student organizations, meet current member and officers of organizations, vote for your favorite booths, enjoy some free popcorn and lemonade, and get some freebies! Cost: Free
Date: Fri, Sep 7, 2012 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm Location: SSCB Student Lounge Description: Join the Fitness Zone for a singles table tennis competition. Sign up in advance in the Student Life Office to secure your spot in the tournament. Be ready for some fierce competition as you play for the first place prize!
Date: Tue, Sep 11, 2012 Time: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Location: Bayou Atrium II, with 15 minute presentations in Garden Room (except 10 – 11am hour) Description: Looking for a service project for your class? Would your student organization like to plan a project for “UHCL’s Day of Service” in the spring? Are you interested in volunteering on a regular basis? Do you need service hours for graduation cords, or for the Servant Leader Scholar program? SLICE will be holding its second annual Community Service Fair featuring volunteer coordinators from many of our Houston-Galveston area non-profit service organizations. Come by and meet with representatives to learn more about what they do, and how YOU can help serve your community! We will also be holding 15 minute informational sessions for participating non-profit organizations to provide overviews of their agencies and services. Check schedule in September.

Date: Fri, Oct 12, 2012 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm Location: Delta Courts Description: Join the Fitness Zone outside for some basketball competition. There will be a 3-on-3 tournament along with a knockout competition. Sign up as a team or individual in the Student Life Office. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and winning knockout player.
Date: Fri, Oct 12 – Sun, Oct 14 2012 Time: All day Location: Trinity Pines Conference Center (Trinity, Texas). Transportation provided. Description:The annual Student Leadership Retreat has been described by past participants as being one of the most meaningful, fun, and influential experiences of their college life at UHCL. During this three-day retreat, students will participate in a low- and high-ropes course, engage in teambuilding, problem-solving, develop and articulate their personal leadership vision, and enjoy getting to know other student leaders. The Retreat is free to attend (meals and lodging are provided.) Space is limited, therefore applications are required to be selected to attend the retreat. Applications are due Friday, September 28th. Cost: $20 transportation fee (if application is accepted)
Date: Mon and Tue, Oct 15-16, 2012 Time: 3:00 – 7:00 pm Location: Atrium II Description: Come relieve some stress with fellow students during mid-term week by enjoying some games, music, popcorn, and a variety of different activities designed to take your brain off school for a little while. Date: Wed, Oct 17, 2012 Time: All Day Location: Various places throughout campus (Alumni Plaza, SSCB and Bayou Buildings) Description: Show your school spirit by wearing blue and green and stopping by the events! Cost: Free
Date: Fri, Oct 26, 2012 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 pm Location: Delta Fields Description: Join the Fitness Zone outside for a kickball competition. No sign-up necessary, come that day and we will make teams for a fun day of kickball. No previous experience necessary, we will teach you the rules that day. So come on and try it out!
Date: Tue, Oct 30, 2012 Time: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Location: Alumni Plaza Description: Join the Fitness Zone for a healthy break in the day. Grab a healthy snack, take a stroll around campus, and enjoy a break in your busy schedule. Health and fitness resources will be available.
Date: Sat, Nov 3, 2012 Time: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm Location: Bayou Building Description:Show your campus pride and join more than 300 college students from all over the state of Texas for this one-day leadership conference, featuring one of our nation’s top collegiate speakers, and choose from more than 15 different leadership workshops to attend. Breakfast and lunch provided! Featuring Keynote Speaker Jason Jaggard, author, speaker, trainer and film-maker. Attend the conference and get a copy of Jaggard’s latest book “SPARK: Transform Your World One Small Risk at a Time”. Register in the Student Life Office. Cost: FREE for UHCL students

Date: Tue - Wed, Dec 4-5, 2012 Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Location: SSCB Lobby and Bayou Atrium I Description: Stop by the Student Life sponsored Finals Business Center for any finals supplies you forgot to bring to campus with you. Whether you need a stapler, hole-puncher, pen, pencil, candy or some good luck, Finals Business Center will have what you need! Cost: Free
