General University Committees
Alumni Association Board
The Board enhances communication between UHCL alumni and the student population. The student representatives are involved in the organization of special events and projects.
Book Store Advisory Committee
The committee is responsible for providing feedback and recommendations to the Director of the Book Store and to the Executive Director of Operations on the products and services offered by the UHCL Book Store.
Committee on Instructional Technology
The committee is responsible for providing timely advice and making recommendations to the Library, Research and Computing Committee (LRCC) on matters concerning the development of instructional technology and distance education strategies for the academic programs at UHCL. CIT is a standing sub-committee of LRCC.
Computing Services Advisory Committee
CSAC, a standing sub-committee of the Library, Research and Computing Committee (LRCC), is responsible for providing timely advice and making recommendations to LRCC and to University Computing and Telecommunications on matters of significance related to computer services for students, staff, and faculty.
Development & Advisory Council
The D&A Council consists of community leaders who advise and assist the university regarding academic issues, fund raising, and external relations. The D&A Council meets in September, November, February, April, and June.
Food Services Advisory Committee
The committee is responsible for providing feedback and recommendations to the Director of Campus Dining Services and to the Executive Director of Operations on the products and services offered by the food service contractor, including the cafeteria, vending machines, and catering services.
Parking/Traffic Safety Committee
The responsibility of this committee, a standing sub-committee of the Facilities & Resources Committee, shall be to coordinate the oversight of the planning, maintenance, and correction of parking and traffic safety matters at the university.
Piper Award Committee
The Piper Award Committee selects teaching excellence awards through a campus-wide nomination process. The committee meets frequently throughout the fall semester, but does not meet in the spring. December graduates are eligible to serve on this committee.
SACS Self-Study Steering Committee
The committee is charged with conducting a self-study as required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The self-study chosen by UHCL has two parts; a compliance component to assure SACS that the institution is in compliance with their Criteria for Accreditation and a strategic component which provides an in-depth analysis of some aspect of the university which is of importance to the university community. The university chose to focus on developing a vision for what UHCL should be in the year 2020. The university must go through a period of self-study and peer review every ten years for reaffirmation by SACS, a regional accrediting body.
Safety and Health Committee
The committee is responsible for the oversight of planning, implementation, and assessment of safety conditions on the UHCL campus. The committee reviews incident reports and reports of safety concerns or unsafe conditions. The committee also reviews inspections to inform members and their constituents of any health and safety problems and allows members to provide input on potential corrective measures. This committee is a standing sub-committee of the Facilities and Resources Committee.
Space Planning and Re-use Committee
The committee is responsible for coordinating oversight of the planning and implementation of new buildings, major renovation of existing campus buildings, and proposed organizational reassignment and changes in facilities use. This committee is a standing sub-committee of the Facilities and Resources Committee.
Student Center/Classroom Building Committee
The committee provides advice and recommendations for the planning, construction, and implementation of the proposed Student Center/Classroom Building
Student Life Council
The Student Life Council serves the Associate Vice President for Student Services/Dean of Students in an advisory capacity on matters related to student life and student services. The Council serves as a hearing and/or appeals board for cases of discipline and as an appeals board for cases of student grievances and student organization sanctions. In the fall, this body selects “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities” through a university-wide nomination process. In the spring, the Council recommends to the President, through the AVP/Dean of Students Office, the allocation of student services fees. The Student Life Council meets twice per month on an average. Student members must be enrolled in at least six semester hours during fall and spring semesters.
Traffic Appeals Committee
The committee hears appeal cases on traffic tickets from students, faculty and staff and makes recommendations based on the appeals to the Director of Traffic and Security concerning policy changes in traffic regulations.
