Piper Award Committee

The Piper Award Committee selects teaching excellence awards through a campus-wide nomination process. The committee meets frequently throughout the fall semester, but does not meet in the spring. December graduates are eligible to serve on this committee.

SACS Self-Study Steering Committee

The committee is charged with conducting a self-study as required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The self-study chosen by UHCL has two parts; a compliance component to assure SACS that the institution is in compliance with their Criteria for Accreditation and a strategic component which provides an in-depth analysis of some aspect of the university which is of importance to the university community. The university chose to focus on developing a vision for what UHCL should be in the year 2020. The university must go through a period of self-study and peer review every ten years for reaffirmation by SACS, a regional accrediting body.

Safety and Health Committee

The committee is responsible for the oversight of planning, implementation, and assessment of safety conditions on the UHCL campus. The committee reviews incident reports and reports of safety concerns or unsafe conditions. The committee also reviews inspections to inform members and their constituents of any health and safety problems and allows members to provide input on potential corrective measures. This committee is a standing sub-committee of the Facilities and Resources Committee.

Space Planning and Re-use Committee

The committee is responsible for coordinating oversight of the planning and implementation of new buildings, major renovation of existing campus buildings, and proposed organizational reassignment and changes in facilities use. This committee is a standing sub-committee of the Facilities and Resources Committee.

Student Center/Classroom Building Committee

The committee provides advice and recommendations for the planning, construction, and implementation of the proposed Student Center/Classroom Building

Student Life Council

The Student Life Council serves the Associate Vice President for Student Services/Dean of Students in an advisory capacity on matters related to student life and student services. The Council serves as a hearing and/or appeals board for cases of discipline and as an appeals board for cases of student grievances and student organization sanctions. In the fall, this body selects “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities” through a university-wide nomination process. In the spring, the Council recommends to the President, through the AVP/Dean of Students Office, the allocation of student services fees. The Student Life Council meets twice per month on an average. Student members must be enrolled in at least six semester hours during fall and spring semesters.

Traffic Appeals Committee

The committee hears appeal cases on traffic tickets from students, faculty and staff and makes recommendations based on the appeals to the Director of Traffic and Security concerning policy changes in traffic regulations.
