An all-expense paid two-and-a-half-day retreat designed for emerging leaders (those students who have limited leadership experience and a strong desire to become a leader) and continuing student leaders who wish to further enhance their leadership skills - is offered by The Center for Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement (SLICE).
Last year's participants had a blast and claimed the experience boosted their confidence in their leadership abilities.
The application deadline is Friday, October 9 at 12pm. Due to space limitations, no applications are considered after the deadline.
The Student Leadership Retreat may be for you if you
Have limited campus leadership experience, but wish to get more involved.
Are currently an officer/member of a student organization or plan to run for office and would like to gain more confidence in your leadership skills
Want to experience a Ropes Course and learn about risk-taking, perceived limits, performance under pressure, giving/receiving support from other people and the benefits of collaboratively working with others. (Note: Alternative experiences will be provided for students who do not wish to or are physically unable to participate in the high ropes course.)
Have a sincere desire to be an active student leader at UHCL.
Attendance Requirements
Be free of any medical or physical condition which might create undue risk to yourself or others particularly at the Ropes Course.
Be enrolled at UHCL through Fall 2009 (preferably through Spring 2010). Special consideration given for those attending through Spring 2011.
Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduates and 2.5 for undergraduates
Provide information for travel authorization
Complete the UHCL travel liability waiver form before leaving Houston
Attend pre-retreat orientation on-campus, prior to leaving for retreat site.
Return a completed pre and post-evaluation at the end of the retreat describing your experiences and the benefits for yourself and UHCL.
