Servant Leader Scholar Program

Servant Leader Scholar Program (SLSP)

SLSP recognizes students who complete a minimum of 100 service hours and 10 hours of leadership development training.

Recognition Timeline

  • March 8
    Service hours reviewed by SLICE.
  • March 16 - 23
    Participants recieve status report regarding award eligibility.
    Eligible participants receive essay question via email.
  • March 3
    Required essays due via email.
    Participants notified of award completion within 7 business days.
  • April 24
    Awards presented at Student Leadership Banquet.

Recognition

Service pin, certificate from UHCL's president, record of participation, and recognition in the commencement program. Gold award also includes graduation cord. Platinum Awards recipients will earn a graduation stole.

Expectations

In order to preserve the integrity of our program, students who participate in the Servant Leader Scholar program will conduct themselves in a respectful and respectable manner during their service experiences.

If you are asked to leave a service experience or leadership program by the facilitators, we will NOT recognize those hours served for the SLSP. If the offense is considered a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, your eligibility for recognition by Servant Leader Scholar will be revoked.

Requirements

  • Make an appointment with Jennifer Clark for an orientation.
  • Log your Service Hours in the following two places:
    1. Create online profile on www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.
      Register UHCL as the certifying organization with record of service key code WJW-39061.
      Log service hours - minimum 100-bronze, 200-silver, 300-gold, 500-platinum.
    2. Complete Community Service Log form (doc). Turn in paper form with the required signatures to Student Life
  • Earn Leadership Development hours - minimum 10-bronze, 20-silver, 30-gold, 50-platinum.
    If you attend a SLICE event, is automatically recorded.
    If you attend a non-SLICE workshop, provide SLICE with a one-page essay describing the program, topic, presenter, length of program, location, activities, what you learned, and a signature of the person in charge who can confirm your attendance.
  • Write a Reflection Essay about the experience, after you have completed your Service Hours and Leadership Development. SLICE sends you specific instructions when you reach this step.
