School of Education at UH-Clear Lake
honored for excellence
in teacher education

HOUSTON, October 28, 2009 — Recognized for its leadership and innovation in teacher education, University of Houston-Clear Lake has been named the winner of the 2009 Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teacher Education by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

UH-Clear Lake is the sole recipient of this year’s award, which recognizes innovative teacher education programs that document the success of their graduates and their impact on the students they teach. School of Education awards its first doctoral degree

The School of Education at the University of Houston-Clear Lake celebrated a major milestone by awarding UHCL’s first doctoral degree at the Fall commencement celebration.

Giving the commencement address for the Schools of Education and Business ceremony was Tina Farrell, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the Clear Creek Independent School District and a 1998 UH-Clear Lake Distinguished Alumnus. Farrell, who received her Master of Arts in Humanities in 1985 and her Mid-Management Certificate in 1993 from UH-Clear Lake, was the first student to receive her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from UH-Clear. video on Doctoral Graduation, video on Doctoral Hooding

At the University of Houston-Clear Lake

     We offer programs leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies; Master of Science Degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, Counseling, Early Childhood Education, Educational Management, Instructional Technology, Multicultural Studies in Education, Reading, and School Library and Information Science; and the Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership. Also offered are a variety of programs leading to teacher and other professional educator certifications and endorsements.

Our programs are fully accredited by both the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). Our students demonstrate consistently high pass rates on The Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES).
