Director of Student Relations

Greetings! I have been working at colleges and universities since 1996, and I have been in the School of Education at UHCL since 2003. My own college experience was amazing thanks to all of the wonderful, caring people at Saint Francis College who helped me along with way. My experience was so great that I decided that I wanted to become someone whose job is to help college students succeed.

My goal every day is to help our students meet their academic and career goals. My father has spent his professional life as a teacher and administrator, so education has always been a part of my life on a very personal level. I am committed not only to helping students succeed, but also to doing my part to ensure that UHCL continues to prepare high quality teachers and other education professionals. If I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Virdeen Muñoz
Senior Academic Advisor

I have been a part of the UHCL community since 2001. It has been my privilege to have spent all of that time in the School of Education. Being an academic advisor has afforded me the opportunity to meet many different people and make a contribution to individual educational journeys. During my tenure, I completed a Master’s Degree in Counseling, giving me added insight into the UHCL student experience.

I am married with 2 children and we live here in the Bay Area. It is important to me to give back to the community that has been my life-long home. I look forward to each new semester and welcoming a new group of people intent on changing their lives and improving our society through education.

Carmen Conley
Academic Advisor

Howdy! My name is Carmen Conley and I'm a native of El Paso, TX. I am extremely grateful to be the first in my family to attend college and graduated in 2007 from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in Psychology. Since graduation, I've made my home in Houston for the past 2 years. While I'm not a big fan of the weather and the Houston traffic, I have grown to love the people and the mix of cultures that I have discovered within the community. I love meeting new people, so please feel free to stop by if you need any help or if you just want to chit-chat!

Senior Academic Advisor

I attended the University of Nevada-Reno, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Women's Studies and Psychology. Through my experience working in various capacities in university student and academic services, I found my passion of helping students. As a result, I received a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. As an academic advisor, I hope to help students be successful in their studies and future careers. I look forward to meeting with each of you, so please feel free and stop in any time..

Sally Coleman
Coordinator of State Assessments/Academic Advisor

I began teaching elementary school in Spring Branch ISD after graduating from The University of Texas at Austin. During my years of teaching I earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a Reading Specialist certification. I then became a stay-at-home mom for 15 years while my sons were growing up, but during that time I managed to keep my hand in education by substitute teaching and serving in several PTA positions. When it was time to go back to working full time, the idea of working at UHCL was very attractive to me—especially in the School of Education. Being an academic advisor and the state assessments coordinator means I get to interact with students every day, and I really enjoy that. Stop by or call anytime you have questions or concerns.

Amy Cabness
STEP Collaborative Program Coordinator

Hello everyone!  Originally from Maryland, I attended Frostburg State University where I received a Bachelors in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and also a Masters of Education in Reading.  Although my educational back ground has been in teaching, my involvement and interactions on campus through the college years created a passion for student learning outside of the classroom.  I used my wonderful education and experiences from Frostburg as I moved forward working within the Residence Halls in Louisiana and Tennessee.  I have a passion for working with college students as they travel through their journey of success.  I am excited to be a part of the UHCL team as we assist our students in becoming exceptional teachers.  I love getting to know my students so please feel free to stop in if you have any questions or need help!
