Pre-Service Internship II (TCED 4798 or TCED 4668)

Students must meet the following requirements for admission to Pre-service Internship II:

  • Successful completion of Pre-service Internship I (grade of "B-" or better).
  • Successful completion of all field experience courses.
  • GPA of 3.000 or better in pedagogy courses, with a grade of B- or better in Pre-service Internship I. .
  • GPA of 2.500 or better in specialization courses, with grades of "C-" or better in each. Grades of "C-" or better are required for all other course work at UHCL.
  • Maximum course load during Pre-service Internship II is 15 semester hours; therefore, no more than six additional semester hours may be taken during Pre-service Internship II, and they must meet no earlier than 7 p.m. See adviser for acceptable course work.
  • Applications for Pre-service II Internship must be received in the CPDT (B1231-4) before the close of business on March 1 for fall and October 1 for spring. Mailed applications must be postmarked by September 26 for spring and February 24 for fall. If the application deadline falls on a weekend or a university holiday, applications will be accepted before the close of business on the following working day. Faxes and late applications will not be accepted.

If students denied admission to Pre-service Internships I or II want to reapply, they must do so by stated deadlines in subsequent semesters.

During Internship II

During Internship II, the intern will be at the same Professional Development School that was assigned for Internship I. For Internship II, however, the intern will spend all day, every school day of the public school semester, in a full-time, supervised pre-service teaching experience. The intern will be under the supervision of the same Internship Team consisting of: Center for Professional Development of Teachers, the PDS personnel, the university supervisor, district supervisor, and mentor teacher with the corporation of the campus principal. (Note:Enrollment in 4:00 pm university courses is not allowed) The Internship Team will continue to serve as the intern’s teacher, supervisor, and mentor throughout the two semesters of internship. The District Supervisor is the teacher of record for this course.

Interns will increasingly accept responsibility for their development as a professional educator through collaborative work with the Internship Team. During the majority of this semester the interns will demonstrate their ability to integrate knowledge and skills of effective teaching based on the SOE Initial Certification Standards.

This experience will consist of, but not limited to:

  • Adhere to required attendance requirements: follow the mentor teacher’s daily and weekly schedule
  • Continue to meet requirements to be eligible for placement on the assigned district’s substitute list
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators, UHCL Student Code Conduct
  • Demonstrate the professional attributes and dispositions stated in the SOE Professional Attributes and SOE Disposition Policy
  • Adhere to school and district protocol, rules and policies
  • Attend in-services, faculty meetings, team meetings and seminars both at PDS and UHCL, as scheduled
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 days of Independent Teaching Experience
  • Lesson planning and implementation
  • Develop and implement a Instructional Unit of Study
  • Classroom Management implementation
  • Develop an e-portfolio based on the School of Education’s Initial Certification Standards
