This student-centered program provides a blend of academic and fieldwork experiences aligned with state and national certification standards to address candidates’ career goals. The graduate plan in Educational Management leads to the Master of Science (M.S.) degree with principal certification, if principal certification requirements are met. The master’s degree in Educational Management consists of 33 hours of graduate course work. Requirements for the master’s degree are completion of the Professional Education Core (12 hours), the Administration Core (18 hours) and the Capstone Experience/Graduate Practicum (3 hours). Students will be eligible to register for graduate practicum after they have successfully completed at least 24 hours of the master’s degree and have passed the Principal TExES. If the Principal TExES is not passed after all courses, except for Practicum, have been successfully completed, students must take ADSU 5010, Professional Preparation Seminar, which is a one-hour course designed to help candidates be successful on their Principal TExES. Graduate practicum is only offered in the fall and spring semesters. A practicum application form must be completed and submitted by June 8 for fall semester and October 1 for spring semester in order to enroll in ADSU 6739, Graduate Practicum. In order to fulfill principal certification requirements, students must successfully complete the 33 hours of M.S. degree course work in educational management. Students must also have a valid Texas teaching certificate, two years of successful full-time classroom teaching in an approved accredited school and a passing score on the Principal state assessment.
Students who meet the graduate admissions requirements to the School of Education (SoE) (see Graduate Admissions Requirements) must meet additional requirements prior to being admitted to the Educational Management program. • proof of having a valid Texas teaching certificate and UH-Clear Lake graduates of this program have cited major benefits, such as faculty excellence, state and national accreditations, and high pass rates on the State TExES exam. According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Elementary of School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, more than half the school principals in the United States will be eligible for retirement in a few years leaving the door wide open for graduates of the educational management program. So that we may provide more convenient locations for our busy students, access to a complete program of course work toward principal certification is now available at San Jacinto College North, UH System Center at Cinco Ranch in Katy, Taylor High School in Alief Independent School District, and Pearland, along with the program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake campus.
