SoE Student Organizations

The School of Education and its faculty sponsor many student organizations. These organizations actively involve students in their chosen career field. Please contact the sponsors listed below for more information on these organizations.

ACEI	The Association for Childhood Education International promotes the inherent rights, education and well-being of all children in their homes, schools and communities. The Association works for desirable conditions, programs and practices for children from infancy through early adolescence. BESO	The Bilingual Education Student Organization promotes bilingual education at the University of Houston Clear Lake and throughout the community. BESO educates others on the benefits of bilingual education, and works to form a solid foundation on which to build a better future. Faculty Sponsors: Dr. Judith Márquez and Dr. Laurie Weaver
Student Council for Exceptional Children	The purpose of the Student Council for Exceptional Children is to advance the education of exceptional children through the professional development of teachers. SCEC sponsors several meetings, conferences, and events throughout the year through their affiliation with the International and Texas Councils for Exceptional Children. Student Reading Council	The Student Reading Council is for undergraduate and graduate education majors interested in exploring research and new ideas in literacy to enhance student learning. The organization offers monthly brown bag professional development sessions for candidates. Faculty Sponsor: Dr. L. Charlene Carter
TSTA-SP	The Texas State Teachers Association-Student Program is for all students pursuing a career in education. It is one of the oldest, most respected teacher associations. It is affiliated with Texas State Teachers Assn (TSTA) and the National Education Assn (NEA). As a member you gain access to their associations’ vast resources which help you move from student to professional educator.
