Support Staff Association


Attention Support Staff!

Support Staff Association Scholarship applications are now available!

Deadline to file your application is November 30, 2009.

The following scholarships will be awarded at the Holiday Luncheon on December 16, 2009:

Four $600 Higher Education Academic Program
Two $100 GED Completion

Criteria:

  1. All applicants must be support staff at UHCL for at least 6 months prior to the application deadline.
    • Higher Education Program--the applicant must be a full-time employee
    • GED Completion--may be a full-or part-time employee.
  2. Applicant cannot have received this scholarship in the last two award semesters (Fall 2008, Spring 2009)
  3. Verification of successful course completion and payment from the previous long semseter (Spring 2009) MUST be attached to the application. Acceptable verification:
    • Higher Education Program--Final Transcript (C- or better for courses taken) and copy of paid fee statement
    • GED Completion--statement of completion and copy of paid fee statement

Failure to meet the above criteria will be cause for disqualification.

The support staff council began in 1987 and officially became a recognized organization of the University of Houston-Clear Lake.  In September 1995, a name and constitution change took place and Support Staff Council became Support Staff Association.

All new and current support staff employees (clerical, custodial, etc.) are encouraged to join SSA.  There are no membership fees.  The only requirement is that you are a full-time employee.  Everyone is invited to attend the open meetings on the first Thursday of each month.

Mission

  1. To provide representation in the Shared Governance structure in all matters relating to the welfare, opportunities, responsibilities and administration of the UHCL support staff both internally and externally.
  2. To promote positive and meaningful communication, coordination, and unity between the support staff and faculty members, students, administration and with other elements of the university.
  3. To promote opportunities for the professional development of the support staff members.
