Pure Message Spam Management
All incoming UHCL e-mail messages pass through a mail filtering software called Pure Message. Pure Message filters out e-mail that it considers to have a high probability of being spam. The Web Interface lets you further control what e-mail comes to your Inbox. You login using your regular network logon. Use the Spam Management Tool on the right to log in.
If you have difficulty logging in, please contact the UCT Support Center 281-283-2828 for assistance.
Quick Reference
- Blocked Messages – lists all e-mail messages that were blocked. From this list, you can choose to deliver a specific message or deliver and approve this message as well as future e-mails from this sender.
- Approved Senders – sometimes referred to as your “Whitelist”. Allows you to add a specific e-mail address so that any incoming e-mail from that address will go directly to your Inbox without being scanned and possibly quarantined by Pure Message.
- Blocked Senders – sometimes referred to as your “Blacklist”. Add e-mail addresses that you want to go directly to Quarantine instead of to your Inbox.
How Do I Report Spam That Slips Through?
The Pure Message system works well, but automated systems can't account for new forms of Spam or defeat human ingenuity, so there is a mechanism for reporting spam that gets through. It is important that you follow these steps to ensure the information needed to add new items to the spam filter is preserved. Please do not use the "Forward" feature in Outlook or Webmail.
In Outlook:
- Open a new e-mail message.
- Address it to SpamWatch (this address is available in the Outlook Address Book).
- Place your cursor in the body of the e-mail message.
- Click on the Insert Menu.
- Select "Outlook Item" in Outlook 2010.
- A pop-up window will appear. The window is a view of your Inbox. Locate the spam message in the window that you want to send and double click on the message. The Spam message will be inserted into the New mail message and is represented with an envelope icon.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each spam you want to report.
- Send the message with the Attached Item(s).
In WebMail:
- Open a new e-mail message.
- Address it to spamwatch@uhcl.edu.
- Move this open window over so you can see your Webmail Inbox.
- Select the spam message you want to report.
- Click and drag it into the new mail message you just created.
- Release the mouse button and you'll see that it added it in the "Attached:" field.
- Repeat steps 4-6 for each spam you want to report.
- Send the message with the Attached Item(s).
