Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB)

The Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) offers quality service to Texas veterans by providing unique low-interest loan programs for land, homes and home improvements, state-of-the-art long-term care for veterans, and dignified places of rest in state cemeteries.

City of Houston Office of Veterans Affairs

The City of Houston Office of Veterans Affairs

  • Assists Houston Area veterans to ensure that neither they or their dependents, nor survivors are denied access to the entitlements promised them by a grateful nation
  • Assists veterans and returning service members by connecting them with services and benefits at Federal, State and City agencies, as well as non-profit organizations
  • Improves quality of life for veterans by increasing local community support to the military community
  • Makes recommendations to the Mayor and the City Council concerning the coordination of economic development, health care and social services programs as they relate to veterans who are residents of the City of Houston
  • Acts as an advocate for those veterans within the City of Houston, who are at risk because of poverty and poor living.
  • Services: Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Seminars with military units, local law enforcement training on veteran behavioral health issues, 'Navigating the Road to Services for Returning Veterans' resource directory, compiling of all local military/veteran events on central online calendar.

Worklife Institute Reentry and Worklife Transition Program

The Worklife Institute Reentry and Worklife Transition Program is free for military personnel (active, retired, Guard and Reserve), veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. Services provided include: Career transition, family and personal transition counseling, legal and financial consultation, work orientation and resources, workshops and seminars, and mediation training.

Homes for Our Troops

Organization Mission Statement: We are Homes for Our Troops, a national non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004. We are strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries since September 11, 2001.

It is our duty and our honor to assist severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

The homes provided by Homes for Our Troops are given at no cost to the Veterans we serve.

Career and Recovery Resources, Inc.

Our Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program (HVRP) provides services to help homeless veterans reintegrate into meaningful employment within the labor force and to provide an effective service delivery system to address the complex problems facing homeless veterans. These services include career counseling, job placement assistance and funding for various training.

USO (United Service Organization)

The USO's mission is to lift the spirits of the American troops and their families. Through the USO, you touch their lives through an extensive range of programs at more than 150 centers in 27 countries, and at hundreds of entertainment events each year. Thousands of USO volunteers do everything possible to provide a home away from home for our troops and to keep them connected to the families they left behind while serving our great Country.

Wounded Warrior Project ®

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Its purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. WWP's vision is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded warriors in our nation’s history. WWP is a national, nonpartisan organization headquartered in Jacksonville, FL.

Vet Center

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Readjustment Counseling Services (RCS) encompass a wide range of psycho social services offered to eligible Veterans and their families in the effort to make a successful transition from military to civilian life. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Individual and group counseling for Veterans and their families
  • Family counseling for military related issues
  • Bereavement counseling for families who experience an active duty death
  • Military sexual trauma counseling and referral
  • Outreach and education including PDHRA, community events, etc.
  • Substance abuse assessment and referral
  • Employment assessment & referral
  • VBA benefits explanation and referral
  • Screening & referral for medical issues including TBI, depression, etc.

Goodwill Industries of Houston –
Veterans Outreach and Employment Services (VOES)

Goodwill Industries of Houston has been awarded a $312,500 grant to serve eligible participants enrolled in the Veterans Outreach and Employment Services (VOES) project by providing them with employment services including assessment, individual employment plan, job readiness training, life skills training, occupational skills training, and placement services to assist participants in becoming self-sufficient through employment.

W*I*N*G*S

We are a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Support Group for wives of veterans with diagnosed PTSD, female veterans with PTSD & mothers of soldiers/veterans with PTSD. We meet once a month on the 2nd Saturday of each month - we host a dinner & gather for a "safe place" meeting - usually there are at least 20 of us in attendance. In addition, spouses are welcome - another activity is included for them in particular.
