The Master of Science (MS) in Biotechnology has graduated biotechnology professionals since 2007. Our alumni go on to pursue successful research careers in academia and private industry, pursue Ph.D. degrees, or move on to alternative science careers such as scientific writers, lab managers, research coordinators, bioinformatics software developers, and project leaders and engineers.

We are the only program in Texas offering three specializations:

  1. Molecular Biotechnology: work as a scientist in a research lab
  2. Management: manage a research lab or division
  3. Bioinformatics: develop or utilize bioinformatics data managements tools

The positive feedback that we obtain from employers is highlighted by the fact that many continue to seek and hire graduates from our program.

Why UHCL?

UHCL's Biotechnology program is the ideal environment to pursue a Master of Science in biotechnology

  • You will work directly with our Ph.D. faculty in small classes- they will teach your courses and you will do research in their labs
  • Our campus is close to the Texas Medical Center in Houston, the largest innovation incubator in the USA and one of the best sources of employment for our alumni
  • Our next-door neighbor, NASA's Johnson Space Center, has close ties with many of our faculty
  • Our program offers flexible course scheduling including many evenings courses, catering to traditional and non-traditional students

You will find a home in our richly diverse community of students and scholars. Even though UHCL is a small regional institution, our partners and collaborators make it possible for our students to obtain a world-class education with access to cutting edge technology.
