Dual Degree Program

Dual Degree Program (DDP) In response to today's global work environment Engineering Management (EMGT) program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) and Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) in Poland announced that they have agreed to launch a 1+1 Dual Degree Program (DDP) in the fall of 2013. Students may concurrently earn a Master of Science in Engineering Management (MS) in UHCL and earn a Master of Science in Management and Production Engineering (M&PE) in WUT.
The purpose of the proposed dual degree program is to:
  • provide students with an opportunity to earn both degrees (USA and European Union) during two years – one year at home institution and another year at hosting institution,
  • provide access to quality education in internationals environment
Participating students are required to successfully complete their first year studies at their home institution and their second year studies including thesis at the hosting institution to be awarded two MS degrees. Note that this dual degree program is not offered online. Participants have to spend each year at both universities.

Program of Study
Participating students must complete degree requirements for both MS in EMGT and MS in M&PE from both institutions. All participating students must choose the thesis option. The detailed curricular and course transition are explained in Appendices

From UHCL to WUT
  1. Participating UHCL students are required to complete predetermined 18 UHCL credits for the first year.
  2. Participating UHCL students are required to complete predetermined 60 European Credit Transfer Accumulation Systems (ECTS) credits in English for their second year at WUT.
  3. UHCL students must complete thesis during their second year at WUT.

From WUT to UHCL
  1. Participating WUT students are required to complete predetermined 60 ECTS credits for the first year.
  2. Participating WUT students are required to complete predetermined 18 UHCL credits for their second year (9 credits per semester).
  3. WUT students must complete thesis during their second year at UHCL.
  4. Students are required to complete their thesis proposal defense by the end of the first semester at UHCL. Hence, it is strongly recommended that students be prepared for the thesis subject in advance.

Admission Requirements
Students must satisfy the admission criteria from both institutions to be admitted in the dual degree program.

UHCL admission requirements
While applicants to the program must satisfy all graduate admission requirements specified in UHCL graduate catalogue in general, the following requirements can be applied to the dual degree program.
  1. The UHCL accepts students in the DDP for fall semesters only (Late August).
  2. Students must maintain GPA of B or above (4.0/5.0 in WUT scale) for their first year study in the MS in M&PE program at WUT.
  3. If one full year transcript is not available, students will be conditionally admitted based on their last 60 ECTS credit hours (GPA of B or above) including the first semester GPA pending full graduate year transcripts.
  4. The admission may be cancelled if students fail to satisfy above GPA requirements.
  5. Students are required to satisfy UHCL English proficiency requirements including TOEFL as stated in the current UHCL graduate catalogue.

WUT admission requirements
  1. The WUT accepts students in the DDP for fall semesters only (1st of October).
  2. Interested candidates from UHCL apply for Master of Science in Management and Production Engineering Program at WUT after satisfying the following requirements:
    • First year fully completed and average grade above B (4.0/5.0 in WUT scale)

Curriculum and Credit Exchange
Participating students must complete their first two semesters at their home institution with average grade of B or above and satisfy all requirements from the hosting institution during their 3rd and 4th semesters. Each institution may provide equivalent credits for the courses taken at the hosting institution to concurrently award MS degree.

Study from UHCL to WUT
  1. UHCL students must successfully complete their first two semester studies at UHCL, and obtain minimum 18 UHCL credits. Based on these, students will earn 60 ECTS credits at WUT
  2. Students must successfully complete 60 ECTS credits hours at WUT during their last two semesters, and may earn 15 UHCL credit hours for those taken at WUT
