Environmental Science is the study of how the parts of nature and human societies operate and interact. It is devoted to the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity for sustainable development, and the control of biological, chemical and physical agents in the environment (air, water, soil, and groundwater) to prevent adverse effects on human and other living organisms.

Safety or Industrial Hygiene - Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene specialization provides a broad academic background in the sciences with emphasis on health and safety applications. The Bachelor of Science in Safety specialization provides students with the skills and knowledge to recognize and control workplace safety hazards. This includes training using tested techniques while going beyond complying with applicable State, National, and Federal standards. The curriculum provides a broad academic background in the sciences with emphasis on safety applications. 

ABET

These program is accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org.  As a result, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) officially recognizes the B.S. Degree in Environment Science – Industrial Hygiene, and the M.S. Degree in Environment Science – Industrial Hygiene as meeting the standards for participation in the Graduate Safety Practitioner Qualified Academic Program.  Also, the Institute for Safety and Health Management Officially Recognizes the B.S. Degree in Industrial Hygiene as meeting the requirements for Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) Designation.

Safety or Industrial Hygiene - Master of Science

The Master of Science in Safety specialization further enhances the undergraduate curriculum through an interdisciplinary approach to prepare students for opportunities in government and the private sector. The Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene specialization further enhances the undergraduate curriculum through an interdisciplinary approach to prepare students for opportunities in government and the private sector.  Also, the Institute for Safety and Health Management officially recognizes the M.S. Degree in Safety as meeting the requirements for ASHM Designation.

Environmental Science

Students must specialize in one of the following areas:

  • Safety Specialization

Environmental Science M.S. Online Option

The Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health Online degree option is designed for students with undergraduate training in the areas of engineering, chemical, biological, physical, medical, animal, or technological sciences, who have an interest in occupational and environmental health or safety. This program caters to professionals in the field who are interested in enhancing their knowledge and career, but cannot commit to coming to class. Graduates of the program have successfully pursued careers and obtained professional certifications in the fields of occupational health and safety, such as CSP, CIH, and CSHM.
