Orientation and New Student Programs

Orientation and New Student Programs (ONSP) serves as a bridge to university life for new students, families, and friends through programs and initiatives designated to help students engage in developmental learning and transition to UHCL.

Only admitted students can register for Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) or Transfer Student Orientation (TSO).

Summer 2016 sessions are for all new students beginning in Summer or Fall 2016.

First-Year Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR)

Students eligible to register for SOAR sessions must, at the time of their admission, either:

  • Have between 0 - 29 credit hours, or
  • Be entering college for the first time.

At SOAR, students meet with an academic adviser, register for classes, meet their peers, and learn about campus resources.

SOAR Summer 2016 Dates

Students must attend both days of SOAR. Programs for friends and family is on day 1 of the SOAR session.

  • Thu-Fri, June 16-17
  • Thu-Fri, July 14-15
  • Thu-Fri, August 4-5
  • Fri-Sat, August 19-20

Transfer Student Orientation (TSO)

Students eligible to register for TSO (sophomores, transfers and graduates) must:

  • Have 30 or more credit hours at the time of their admission.
  • Meet with an Academic Adviser prior to attending TSO if they have 30 - 44 credit hours.

At TSO, students are introduced to faculty and staff, new and current students, and administrative professionals. By attending, students gain a broad overview of university policies, expectations and available resources.

TSO Summer 2016 Dates

Students must stay for the entirety of their TSO session.

Special Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

Any individual who requires an accommodation for a specific disability in order to participate should contact the ONSP Office at 281-283-2420 at least one week prior to the orientation date.
